How we support A&E firms

  • CAD and modeling workstations, planned and replaced on schedule
  • File storage and sync set up for large drawings and models
  • Remote access for the field and from home
  • Plotter and printer support
  • Backups of every project, tested by hand
  • Microsoft 365 and Teams for working with clients
What we take off your plate

Fewer interruptions for your designers and projects

When architecture and engineering firms ask us about IT support, these are the concerns that come up most. Here is what working with us looks like for each one.

Machines that keep up
Problem: A workstation that stalls on every model
How we help: Design machines specified, maintained and replaced on a plan, so nobody is waiting on a slow model.
Files that open fast
Problem: Drawings that crawl over the VPN
How we help: Storage and sync set up for large drawings and models, in the office and remotely.
Secure client sharing
Problem: Drawings emailed around with no control
How we help: A clean way to exchange drawings with clients and consultants, with control over who sees what.
Every project protected
Problem: Ransomware the week a submittal is due
How we help: Backups of project data, tested by hand, so a deleted file or a ransomware attack doesn't cost you a deliverable.
The software you already run

We support your stack so you can keep it.

We manage and patch the workstations, servers, storage and network your design software depends on. When something breaks, we deal with the vendor.

The cost of doing nothing

What waiting costs you

Most owners start by asking what IT will cost. In our experience, the bigger number is what the current setup is already costing in time, focus and missed work.

Missed submittalsWhen files or machines aren't available, deadlines slip.
Hours you can't billTime spent waiting on files and slow machines is time that doesn't go on a project.
The next projectProposals and RFP responses that go out late, or not at all, when the team is busy fighting IT.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does IT support for an architecture or engineering firm include?

The same help desk and IT support every client gets, plus the parts design work depends on: CAD and modeling workstations planned and replaced on schedule, storage and sync set up for large drawings and models, remote access for the field and from home, plotter and printer support, backups of every project tested by hand, and Microsoft 365 and Teams for working with clients.

We have 14 people and some are part time. How does pricing work?

One flat fee per user, per month. That's how all our managed IT services are priced. Before you sign, we work out with you who counts as a user, including part-time staff. You'll know the number up front, and it doesn't change without a conversation.

Our Revit models are slow to open. Is that the workstation or the server?

Usually one thing is the bottleneck: the workstation, the storage the model lives on, or the network between them. We find which one before you spend money on new hardware, then tell you what it costs to fix.

Can our people work on large models from home?

Yes, and there's more than one way to do it. Depending on your file sizes and how many people work remotely, that might be remote access to a machine in the office or a change to where the files live. We'll recommend the one that fits, not the most expensive one.

Do you handle our Autodesk licensing?

We manage the machines, the installs and the deployment, and we work with your Autodesk reseller on the licensing itself. You keep the commercial relationship, and we make sure what's licensed matches what's installed.

Can you set up rendering that doesn't lock up someone's workstation?

Yes, as a separate project. Depending on your volume, that's either a dedicated machine in the office that jobs get sent to or a cloud rendering service. We'll scope it and tell you what each one costs to run.

What happens to project archives when a job closes?

We set up a place for closed projects that's backed up and tested, so they come off your main storage. Old projects stay easy to retrieve, and your working drive stops filling up.

What if we get hit with ransomware right before a submittal?

We contain it first, then restore from backups we test regularly, so recovery isn't guesswork. We also walk through your cyber insurance carrier's claims process with you.

A client sent us a security questionnaire. Can you fill it out?

We'll tell you which security controls are in place so you can answer it accurately, and what it would take to turn a no into a yes. A short form is part of the service. A long formal questionnaire or audit package is quoted as a separate project, so you know what you're paying for.

Do you come to the office, or is it all remote?

Both. Most problems are fixed remotely, often within minutes. When something needs hands on it, like a plotter or a workstation swap, someone from our Richmond team comes out.

How long does it take to get started?

Onboarding takes 90 days or less, and we guarantee it. If we don't finish in that time, you can cancel with no penalty or termination fee.

Where in Virginia do you support design firms?

Our office is on Hull Street Road in Richmond, and we support architecture and engineering firms across Virginia, including Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Midlothian, Mechanicsville and Lynchburg. Most day-to-day support happens remotely, and when something needs hands on site, a technician from our own team comes to you.
