If you aren’t heavily involved in tech purchases at your organization, you may not have heard, but recent flooding in Thailand has caused all major manufacturers of platter-based hard drives to run low on inventory, sending prices skyrocketing.

With prices increasing over 100% on some models, computer vendors have no choice but to forward the costs to the customer. This means everything from desktops and laptops to server and storage solutions are getting price hikes for the foreseeable future. In some cases, manufacturers are adding steep markups to the already increased rates.

If you don’t absolutely need additional storage for the time being, our advice is to ensure that you’re data is backed up and sit tight until distributors can recover their inventories and prices begin to wane again.
